UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan with Giandomenico Picco, Personal Representative for the Dialogue among Civilizations and Senior Fellow of the School of Diplomacy.

During the past two years the School of Diplomacy has had the distinct privilege of serving as the Secretariat and project manager for the United Nations Year of Dialogue among Civilizations. In this capacity, the School helped lay the groundwork for the publication, Crossing the Divide: Dialogue among Civilizations, which was presented by Secretary-General Kofi Annan to the UN General Assembly in November 2001. Crossing the Divide, authored by a distinguished group of eminent persons appointed by the Secretary-General and published by the School of Diplomacy, sets forth a new framework for global affairs.
