THE MOTHER SETON CHAPEL WINDOWS

In the chapel dedicated to St. Elizabeth Ann Bayley Seton, patroness of the University, the statue of Mother Seton is flanked by the coats of arms of the congregations of religious sisters founded under her inspiration. In the left panel, the upper two shields honor the Sisters of Charity of New York and of Emmitsburg, Maryland. The shield on the bottom is an unusual version of the coat of arms of Mother Seton herself. On the right, reading from the top, are the coats of arms of the Sisters of Charity of Halifax, Nova Scotia; Cincinnati, Ohio; and Convent Station, New Jersey.

The upper portions of the windows removed to make room for the Mother Seton windows were installed in the chapel of Xavier Hall. They depict an Alpha and an Omega.

In the Mother Seton Chapel are two beautiful trefoil windows. The circular center portions of these windows serve as ventilators. The origin of these windows is uncertain, but they are similar in style to the nave windows of the early 1900s.
