is used to make a search very precise. For example if you link “stress”
and “workplace” with the operator
AND you will retrieve only those
articles that contain both terms. |

OR
is used to combine like concepts or terms in order to be sure you don't
miss important information. For example, if you use the
OR operator
to link “anxiety” with “stress” you will be more likely to find
articles on your topic. |

NOT
(some databases use
AND NOT instead) can be used to eliminate
unwanted concepts. For example, if you want articles on Seton Hall
University that are not about basketball, you would use “Seton Hall
University” NOT “basketball.” |
