The term AND is used to make a search very precise. For example if you link “stress” and “workplace” with the operator AND you will retrieve only those articles that contain both terms.

The term OR is used to combine like concepts or terms in order to be sure you don't miss important information. For example, if you use the OR operator to link “anxiety” with “stress” you will be more likely to find articles on your topic.

The term NOT (some databases use AND NOT instead) can be used to eliminate unwanted concepts. For example, if you want articles on Seton Hall University that are not about basketball, you would use “Seton Hall University” NOT “basketball.”
