Seton Hall University Honors Program

Core Curriculum and General Education Requirement equivalencies

by college or school

Honors Program students are held to the University Core Curriculum and to the current college and school general education requirements.  Honors Program courses fulfill these requirements in the following ways.

The University Core Curriculum requires all students to take CORE 1001 University Life in their first semester.  Honors Program students have their own sections of University Life, taught in Freshman Studies.

All students are required to take CORE 1101 Journey of Transformation and CORE 2101 Christianity and Culture in Dialogue.  Beginning in 2013, the Honors colloquia incorporate the material of CORE 1101 and CORE 2101 over the course of the four semesters of the colloquia. Honors Program students fulfill these requirements by completing HONS 1101-1102 and HONS 2103-2105.  Since HONS 1101 is prerequisite to HONS 1102 and HONS 2103 is prerequisite to HONS 2105, the tables below assign the CORE completions to the second of each pair of courses.

The Core Curriculum requires all students to take ENGL 1201 and 1202, College English I and II.  The first two Honors colloquia (HONS 1101 and HONS 1102) substitute for these courses.

The Core Curriculum also requires all students to take an "Engaging the World- Signature Three" course (CORE 3xxx), normally in the junior year.  These courses are required of Honors Program students as well.

The course equivalences below are the normal way in which the Honors Program courses fulfill the general education requirements of the several schools.  Depending on a student's academic record, other substitutions may be made with the written agreement of the Director of the Honors Program and of the student's dean.
