Students from all undergraduate colleges of the University may be accepted into the University Honors Program. Honors courses intensify liberal arts studies and complement science and professional programs. Mutually supportive of one another, participants exemplify in their methods and achievements the very best elements of a liberal education. Grounded in the study of humanities, from ancient cultures through modern, the University Honors Program broadens students' critical capacities and fosters in-depth understanding of Western and non-Western cultures. Honors students also have available to them the finest resources in information technology.

The University Honors Program creates a community of learners for both students and faculty alike as we carry on the great conversation with our heritage in the contemporary situation. Students are challenged by the faculty to become active participants in their own learning and discovery. Group projects, reports and small group learning tasks complement the work that each student must perform on an individual basis. An Honors student must be prepared to work effectively and responsibly as an individual and also be able to contribute as a group member with fellow students, working in close collaboration with faculty members. This close collaboration of students and faculty is enriched by the many cultural events in which they participate together, as well as by informal conversations and discussions.
