Students who enter Seton Hall University in the Fall semester of 2008 and later are held to the new University Core Curriculum and to the revised college and school general education requirements. Honors Program courses fulfill these requirements in the following ways.
First of all, the University Core Curriculum requires all students to take CORE 1001 University Life in their first semester. Honors Program students have their own sections of University Life, taught in Freshman Studies.
All students are required to take CORE 1101 Journey of Transformation and CORE 2101 Christianity and Culture in Dialogue. The Honors Program teaches its sections of these courses in conjunction with its first and third colloquia.
The Core Curriculum requires all students to take ENGL 1201 and 1202, College English I and II. The first two Honors colloquia (HONS 1001 and HONS 1102) substitute for these courses.
The Core Curriculum also requires all students to take a "third Signature" course, normally in the junior year. Some, but not all, Honors Seminars will also be designated "Signature Three" courses. Honors students who do not take these Honors Seminars must fulfill the Core Curriculum "Signature Three" course requirement, whether with Honors Seminars or otherwise.
The Honors Program also requires an Honors Thesis. Departmentally required theses may be accepted as fulfilling this Honors requirement, provided that the departmental thesis meets agreed standards for Honors theses. These substitutions must be made on an individual basis, in consultation with the Director of the Honors Program.
The course equivalences below are the normal way in which the Honors Program courses fulfill the general education requirements of the several schools. Depending on a student's academic record, other substitutions may be made with the written agreement of the Director of the Honors Program and of the student's dean.
For students in the College of Arts and Sciences, the Honors Program fulfills the College general education requirements in the following way:
