Spain
Special Topics in Hispanic Civilization/Spanish Seminar
Alicante, Spain at the University of Alicante
June 18 – July 20, 2007

The 2007 Seton Hall in Alicante, Spain, Spanish Summer Program will be held June 18 - July 20 at the modern campus of the Universidad de Alicante, located on the outskirts of this beautiful Mediterranean Spanish city. Classes are held at the Universidad of Alicante every day from 9:00-1:00. Students live with Spanish speaking families in groups of two or three per family. Private transportation by bus is provided to the university from the students' places of residence throughout the city. Each student will take two three-credit courses (six credits), one taught by Dr. Daniel Zalacain, Chair of the Department of Modern Languages at Seton Hall and the Director of the Program, and the other by a distinguished professor from the Universidad de Alicante. Students will be placed, according to their level of language proficiency, in Elementary, Intermediate, or Advanced. The objectives of each course are to offer students a conversational and cultural approach which would complement the verbal practice of the Spanish language outside of the classroom. Nine days will be dedicated to comprehensive excursions to the cities of Madrid, Toledo, Granada, and Barcelona. In these cities students will be able to visit museums to view the masterpieces of Spanish painters like Velázquez, Goya, El Greco, Picasso, Dalí, and Miró, among many others. In addition, they will visit national monuments like the Royal Palace, cathedrals, and the Alhambra. Also, they will experience one of Spain’s most exciting and important festivals, Alicante’s own “Hogueras de San Juan” (Saint John’s Bonfires).
