Practicum in Not-for-Profit Management (NFPM6101)

Apply your knowledge in a practical setting. Demonstrate professionalism and build your network by using your not-for-profit management knowledge and skills in real life. Participate in a full-time, 560-hour placement, which will be secured through an interview process between the student and prospective practicum site supervisors. This intensive two day course will introduce you to the not-for-profit sector, its challenges, issues, and role within the community. You will explore the organization, governance, fund development and planning matters involved in a not-for-profit organization. This course is recommended for all participants in the Professional Certificate program; however, those with a minimum of three years experience working in this sector may apply for an exemption.

The role that boards should play in not-for-profit financial management is not always appreciated or fully understood. Students will be introduced to a comprehensive view of how boards should view and participate in financial management in a not-for-profit. This course will provide an introduction to the basic understanding of accounting, budgeting and management reporting boards need in order to perform their fiduciary and oversight function. This course will provide a practical perspective as to what boards should do and emphasize the different roles the board and the executive director have with respect to proper financial management.
Public Relations and Communication for Not-for-Profits (NTPT6207)

Communicate, sell and distinguish your organization’s identity. This course will show you how to differentiate your not-for-profit organization from the others with an effective communications strategy. You will learn to write a communications plan, build strong media relations and develop media events. In addition, you will learn to recognize a crisis and build an appropriate crisis communication plan.
Fundraising and Development (NTPT6208)

Learn the best practices for developing and executing an effective fundraising strategy. Building a comprehensive development program is a key function of a not-for-profit.
