BUS5SMM SUSTAINABLE MANAGEMENT & MARKETING

This subject provides an introduction to key dimensions of management and marketing in diverse organisational contexts. Informed by the need for sustainable value creation in contemporary organisations, the subject explores how external and internal environments influence management and marketing behaviour and practice. Students engage with these issues by considering and analysing real world examples, informed by theoretical and analytic frameworks.
MGT5MPT MANAGEMENT PRACTICE AND THEORY

Graduate Level
In this subject students will focus on the fundamental principles and theory of management. An exploration of the development of these principles from historical precedents to present day applications will form a significant part of this subject. Students will be expected to analyse critically, evaluate and develop a body of knowledge regarding the underlying theory used in the practice of contemporary management. Learning is developed through a combination of lectures, group work and individual activities. The subject is taught by way of lectures and is not structured to be accessed by distance or personal non-interaction. This subject offers a practitioner's approach to management focussing strictly on the operational context. Management theory is then applied to explain what is taking place in each explored context, giving students diagnostic and analytical frameworks that can be immediately employed in the contemporary industrial setting.

This subject introduces you to the major concepts that enable managers to understand the behaviour of people in organisations. You will investigate the impact of individuals, groups and organisational structure on organisational behaviour, and you will investigate how organisational behaviour concepts can help managers engage with organisation challenges.
MKT5MMA MARKETING MANAGEMENT

In this subject students will learn to develop an ability to understand and interpret the role of marketing management in a business setting. Issues relating to market orientation are examined across a variety of different industry sectors and explicated in terms of contemporary marketing theory and practice. The key components of the marketing management planning and control process are outlined, including analysis of the marketing environment; marketing strategy formulation the the design and implementation of the marketing plan, including decisions relating to the marketing mix.
IBU5HRM HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT IN A GLOBAL ECONOMY

The aim of this subject is to provide a systematic framework within which to explore the complexities of managing people in a global business context. Students will explore both international and domestic human resource management dimensions, and focus on issues facing a range of organisations that operate in the international environment. On completion of this subject, you should have a general understanding of the role of strategic international human resource management in the success of multinational enterprises.

Globalisation is a process by which distant regions are increasingly linked, shaping our lives and impacting on the fate of nations. In this subject students will explore world history by examining the process by which the wealthy countries expanded into, and influenced the rest of the world. We often think of globalisation primarily in terms of industry, trade and technology, but in this subject we will take a broader view, which includes the current problems of world poverty and conflict, environmental degradation and racism. Case histories from Latin America, Africa and Asia will be examined.

The Master of Management degree has been developed for students seeking a career in management or leadership. Starting with the core foundation knowledge required of all managers whatever the context, the course then goes on to provide the opportunity for you to develop knowledge in more specialised areas of management or to maintain a more general orientation in your studies. The degree brings together students from a diverse mix of academic backgrounds ranging from engineering, humanities and science to management in a way that facilitates dynamic multidisciplinary innovation and exchange of ideas. The primary objective of the course is to equip you with the tools and skills necessary to develop ideas, to lead and to manage organisational activities across corporate, government and not-for-profit sectors, and in small, medium and large scale enterprises. The course offers opportunities for an independent research thesis project.
