Choosing the Right Books

One of the ways academics communicate is through monographs. A monograph is a scholarly piece of writing of essay or book length on a specific, often limited subject. So consulting monographs is a very good way to look in depth at a topic, and thus help you focus your research. In addition it will provide information that may not be available anywhere else. Many of the books in Walsh University Libraries are considered to be monographs.

Remember, when you are looking for resources on a topic, your subject of interest might be only one part of a book that deals with many topics. Don’t just rely on the title of a book to determine what it is about. You can look at chapter headings or through the table of contents. In addition, very often, your topic is listed in the index of a book. Once you find the right book for your research, look at its bibliography to find other books on your topic.
