Honors Program Written Work Grading Guidelines:

10 points for each essay for each reader

10 for an absolutely flawless, perfect essay

-1 to -3 points for an incomplete answer

-1 point for significant grammatical errors

-1 ot -3 for lack of documentation and other specificity

-1 to -3 for sheer wrongness (e.g. Thomas Aquinas was a Muslim)

 

First Colloquium Criteria:

Critical reading of sources

Choice and argument of a coherent thesis

Appropriate preliminary and background research

Appropriate citation of sources

Appropriate use of formal English prose

 

Second Colloquium Criteria:

Critical reading of sources

Appropriate research in print and electronic media

Narrowing of topic to a central argument

Articulation of a clear thesis and argument

Consistent argumentation of thesis

Appropriate citation of sources

Appropriate use of formal English prose

 

Third Colloquium Criteria:

Critical reading of sources

Appropriate research in print and electronic media

Narrowing of topic to a central argument

Articulation of a clear thesis and argument

Consistent argumentation of thesis

Fourth Colloquium Criteria:
Critical reading of sources

Choice of appropriate subject matter

Ample research in print, electronic media and scholarly databases, evidenced by bibliographical material

Appropriate choice of material for class presentation

Well chosen articulation of presentation

Well organized discussion points

Confident steering of class discussion, with substantive discussion questions

Clear organization of written report

Articulation of clear thesis of written report

Appropriate citation of all sources, print, electronic and other

Appropriate use of formal English prose
