Services

Seton Hall University encourages faculty members and administrators to seek funding from outside sources to meet existing needs and to conduct special projects.  In recognition of the importance of this search for external funding, the Seton Hall Office of Grants and Research Services provides a variety of support services.

 

Areas of Services:

 

1.   Information about Sources of Funding

  • OGRS Web Page – http://academic.shu.edu/grants provides links to public and private funding agencies, and funding search databases, such as SPIN and Community of Science (COS). 

  • We regularly review newsletters, publications and, electronic resources and forward the information on grant and fellowship opportunities to faculty members.

  • We assist in identifying government, foundation, and corporate grant programs to match faculty interests.

  • We disseminate information on internal awards, such as the Seton Hall University Research Council Awards.

 

2.   Project Design

  • We provide consultation and assistance in the project design phase preceding proposal preparation.

  • We provide coordination and consultation in the design of campus-wide, multidisciplinary, and/or inter-institutional projects.

 

3.   Budget Preparation

  • We review and approve all proposal budgets.  The Director of the OGRS is the official Seton Hall institutional representative to sign off on agency forms.

  • We provide consultation in completing all required Federal budget forms, budget narratives, and assurances.

  • We advise applicants as to current University policies on Facilities & Administrative (F&A) or indirect costs, fringe benefit rates, etc.

  • We advise applicants in obtaining matching funds required for cost sharing.

 

4.   Proposal Assembly

  • We provide assistance in securing the necessary approvals, including official signatures required on the Seton Hall University Proposal Checklist

  • OGRS is responsible for assuring that all proposed projects, prior to submission, are in compliance with all federal regulations concerning human subjects and animals, scientific misconduct, conflict of interest, etc.  Additionally OGRS is charged with ensuring that proposals conform to University policies, and that proposed budgets contain the necessary fringe benefits, Facilities and Administrative (F&A) costs, and cost sharing requirements.

  • We provide assistance with duplicating and assembling the final version of the grant. 

  • We can arrange for duplication and next day delivery of proposals to Federal and State agencies, and to foundations and corporations.

 

5.   Electronic Submission

  • We provide assistance with on-line submission of proposals.

  • We provide training about on-line submission process.

 

6.   Agency Foundation Contact and Follow-up

  • We act as a liaison between the Principal Investigator/University and the funding agency to explore funding opportunities and to follow-up on submitted proposals.  We also contact elected government officials to obtain their support for our proposal.

 

7.   Sub-contracts and Sub-grants

  •  We work with the university’s legal department to ensure that sub-contracts and sub-grants comply with university requirements.
