Fellowship Opportunities
NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE
HUMANITIES SUMMER STIPENDS
NEH Summer Stipends provide faculty with an
opportunity to pursue research in the
humanities that contributes to scholarly knowledge
or to the public's understanding
of the humanities. These prestigious awards offer
faculty $6,000 for two months of
consecutive, full-time research and writing in the
humanities. Recipients might eventually
produce scholarly articles, a monograph on a
specialized subject, a book on a broad topic,
an archaeological site report, a translation, an
edition, a database, or other scholarly tools.
Faculty members teaching full-time at colleges and
universities must be nominated by their
institutions to apply for a Summer Stipend.
Applications should be submitted on-line by faculty
only after they have been nominated. Each college
and university in the United States and its
jurisdictions may nominate two faculty members. Applicants who hold the
rank of instructor or
assistant professor or who are at comparably early
stages of their careers will be considered junior
nominees. Those holding the rank of associate
professor or professor will be considered senior
nominees.
Interested faculty must send in a two-page project
abstract to the Office of Grants & Research
Services,
3rd floor of Presidents Hall no later than 5 p.m. on
Friday, September 7th. The abstract must be sent in
via
email to grantsoffice@shu.edu in MSWord or PDF
format. If there are greater than the allowable
two
applicants, the University Research Council (URC)
will make the final recommendations. Nomination
instructions will be shared with the two applicants
in order to complete their applications for the
NEH's October 2 deadline. Please see the important
note below: adjunct faculty and university staff
do not need to be nominated and may apply on their
own.
