Peer Advisers
Each first-year student is assigned a specially selected and trained Peer Adviser. The Peer Adviser, a successful undergraduate representing all of the schools in the University, works with Mentors to provide "first-hand" insight to the student. It is vital that new students connect to the existing student body. Peer Advisers provide an immediate resource in accomplishing this objective. Peer Advisers serve as "big-brothers" and "big-sisters," working to ensure personal support and assistance to each person in our entering class.
There are forty-seven Peer Advisers for the Class of 2010. Geographically, thirty-eight percent come from states other than New Jersey (Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Missouri, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania) and one Peer Adviser is an international student from Bangladesh. During the 2006-07 academic year, eighty-three percent will be living in SHU residences while seventeen percent will commute.
Your Peer Adviser can help you:
- Meet other students
- Find new ways to anticipate and solve typical first year problems.
- Gather information about University-sponsored academic and social activities.
- Become acquainted with the University.
