Mentors
At orientation, students meet the Mentors in Freshman Studies and, if they have declared major, a faculty advisor. The Mentors are highly trained professionals whose primary responsibility is to become a constant resource person throughout a student's first year at Seton Hall University. Mentors instruct the University Life Course that all freshmen take to ensure a regular academic contact. They help students take advantage of the many resources available at Seton Hall, including Academic Support Services, The Career Center, Health/Counseling Services, Campus Ministry, and the many activities in Student Affairs.
Faculty Advisors are designated members of the academic departments who ensure that each student is connected to his or her chosen department and that particular academic experience within each major happens according to plan. Students who do not declare a major when they enter Seton Hall are provided these same resources through the Mentors in Freshman Studies. These students are encouraged, when they enter to sit through formal programming and informal meetings, to connect to an academic department as soon as they feel conformable, but every effort is made to place students into a major by the end of their sophomore year.
The primary goal of the mentors and faculty advisors is to assist students in making choices regarding an academic program while simultaneously integrating students into the life and community of the University.
